The short version
- CarStamp for Android has no account, no server, no ads, no analytics and no tracking.
- What you enter stays on your phone or tablet. With CarStamp Pro and Google Drive sync turned on, it is also kept in your own Google Drive, in a hidden folder only CarStamp can use. If you use Android's own backup, it is kept in your Google Account only when Android encrypts it end to end.
- The developer never receives your cars, records, photos, documents or anything else you put into the app, and has no access to your Google Drive.
- Purchases are handled by Google Play. The developer never sees your payment details.
- Receipts and the odometer are read on your device. Nothing is sent to a server to be read.
- The only personal data the developer receives is what you choose to send by email when you ask for help, and the order details Google Play shows for a purchase (section 5).
1. Who is responsible
CarStamp is made by Emil Georgiev, an individual developer based in Bulgaria ("the developer", "we"). For any personal data the developer does receive (see sections 5, 7 and 8), the developer is the controller under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

This policy covers CarStamp for Android phones and tablets. CarStamp on Apple devices has its own privacy policy at carstamp.app/privacy.
2. What the app keeps, and where
On your device
Everything you enter is stored in the app's database on your device: your cars (name, make, model, year, VIN, number plate, purchase and sale details, photos), your records (fuel and charging, services with their parts and labor, expenses, mileage, notes), maintenance items and renewals, tire sets, documents with their pages, attachments such as receipt photos and invoices, recurring costs, and the workshops, stations and shops you name (with any address, phone number or website you add).
The app also keeps its own settings on the device, such as whether notifications are on, your alert time, the calendar you chose and whether CarStamp Pro is active.
This data is protected by your device's own security (its screen lock and encryption). The developer has no way to reach it.
In your Google Drive (CarStamp Pro, sync turned on)
What CarStamp may access. When you have CarStamp Pro and turn on Sync with Google Drive, you sign in with your Google Account and allow CarStamp one permission: to use its own hidden app folder in your Google Drive (the https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.appdata scope). CarStamp asks for nothing else: no access to your other files in Drive, and not your name, email address or profile.
What it keeps there. Each of your devices keeps one file there with your cars, records and other data, and each attachment (photos, receipts, documents) is kept there as a file of its own, so your other Android devices signed in to the same Google Account receive them. The folder counts toward your Drive storage, and you cannot browse it in Drive, but you can delete it (section 11).
Who can see it. Only you and CarStamp on your own devices. The app connects directly to Google Drive; the developer has no server in between and no access to your Drive. Google stores the folder under your agreement with Google and Google's privacy policy.
Turning sync off, or Pro ending, deletes nothing: the data stays on the device and in your Google Drive.
CarStamp's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Android's own backup
If backup is turned on in your device's settings, Android may copy the app's database and settings to your Google Account, so they come back when you set up a new device. CarStamp allows this only when Android encrypts the backup end to end with your screen lock, so Google cannot read it. Attachments (photos, receipts, documents) are left out of it; a CarStamp backup file carries them (section 6). On Android 8 the app is left out of Android's backup. A direct transfer from your old device to a new one copies everything.
Widgets, shortcuts and tiles
Widgets you add to your Home Screen show what is due, renewals and your cars' details to anyone who can see your screen, so add them only where that suits you. The app's shortcuts on its icon and its Quick Settings tiles stay on the device.
3. Permissions the app asks for
CarStamp asks for a permission only when you first use the feature that needs it. You can change every one of them later in your device's settings.
| Permission | When it is asked | Why | If you say no |
|---|---|---|---|
| Camera | The first time you scan | To scan receipts, invoices and document pages, and to read the mileage from your odometer. The picture is read on your device | Pick a photo or a file instead, or type the record or the mileage in |
| Notifications | When you create your first reminder, or turn on Allow alerts in Settings, Notifications | To alert you before maintenance, renewals and reminders are due. They are scheduled on the device; nothing is sent from a server | No alerts; everything else works |
| Alarms and reminders | Together with notifications, where Android asks for it | So an alert arrives at the exact time you chose | Alerts may arrive a little later |
| Calendar (CarStamp Pro) | When you turn on Calendar sync in Settings, Calendar | To add renewals and maintenance dates to the calendar you choose and keep them up to date. CarStamp reads only the list of your calendars and its own events, never your other events. If the calendar you choose belongs to an online account, that account's provider keeps the events as it keeps any other | No calendar events |
Without asking you, the app also uses what Android grants every app that needs it: starting again after a restart (so your alerts are planned again), keeping the device awake for a moment while an alert or a background task runs, and the internet and network state, used only for Google Play and, if you turn it on, Google Drive sync (sections 2, 5 and 7).
What the app uses without a permission, because the system only hands over what you pick:
- Photos: Android's photo picker gives CarStamp only the photos you select (for a car's picture, an attachment, a document page or a receipt to read). The app has no access to the rest of your library.
- Files: the system file picker gives CarStamp only the files you choose (a backup to restore, a CSV file to import, a PDF or image to attach).
What the app never asks for: your location, microphone, contacts, or access to your other apps' data.
4. Reading receipts
When you scan or choose a receipt, an invoice or a photo of your odometer, CarStamp reads its text with text recognition models that are part of the app. They run entirely on the device: the image and its text are not sent anywhere, and the models are never downloaded or updated over the internet.
5. Purchases
CarStamp Pro is sold through Google Play. Google processes the payment and manages the subscription under your agreement with Google and Google's privacy policy, not on the developer's behalf. The app asks Google Play only whether Pro is active on your Google Account, checks that answer on the device and keeps the status on the device. The developer never receives your payment details.
For each purchase, Google Play shows the developer the order: the order number, the product, the price, the date, the country and the email address of the Google Account that bought it. The developer uses these only to answer questions about that purchase, such as a refund, and never combines them with anything from the app (the app sends nothing). Google keeps them in its own systems.
- Lawful basis: the contract you entered into when buying (GDPR Article 6(1)(b)) and the legal obligations of tax and accounting law (Article 6(1)(c)).
- Retention: as long as Google Play keeps them and tax and accounting law requires.
Restoring purchases, redeeming codes and refunds go through Google Play. CarStamp Pro bought on Google Play works on your Android devices; it does not carry over to Apple devices, and a purchase made on an Apple device does not carry over to Android.
The app may also show Google Play's standard rating window. Google shows it and handles any rating or review you give, under Google's policies.
6. Files you create and share
CarStamp can create files at your request. They are saved or shared only where you choose, through Android's share sheet or file picker; the app uploads nothing.
- Backup: one file with all your cars, records, attachments, documents and maintenance items. It is not encrypted: anyone who has the file can open it, so keep it somewhere safe. The same file can be restored in CarStamp on another Android device or on an Apple device.
- CSV export: every record as a spreadsheet.
- Service history PDF: the car (including its number plate and VIN), its services and, if you choose, amounts, fuel and other costs, and the receipts and invoices attached to the included records. Your name is on it only if you enter it.
- Hand Over to New Owner: one car's history as a
.carstampfile for the next owner. It never contains what you paid or were paid for the car, your estimate of its value or your other cars. Costs, receipts and photos, and documents are included only if you choose them.
Once a file leaves the app, the people and services you send it to handle it.
7. What the developer receives
From the app: nothing. CarStamp has no account, no server of its own, and no analytics, advertising, crash-reporting or tracking code, including in the libraries it bundles. The diagnostics upload built into Google Play's billing library is switched off. Apart from Google Play (purchases, restoring them and the rating window) and, if you turn on sync, your own Google Drive, the app makes no network connections. Your records leave the device only to your own Google Drive, and only when you turn sync on.
From Google: if you have chosen in your device's settings to share usage and diagnostics with Google, Google may give the developer crash and performance statistics (Android vitals) that do not identify you. You control this in your device's Google settings.
8. When you contact support
If you email us, we receive your email address, your message and anything you attach. We use them only to answer you and to fix the problem you report.
- Lawful basis: your request (GDPR Article 6(1)(b), steps taken at your request) and our legitimate interest in supporting the app and fixing problems (Article 6(1)(f)).
- Retention: we keep the correspondence while it is needed to help you, and delete it within 2 years of our last message.
- Who else handles it: only the email services that carry and store our mail: Cloudflare Email Routing receives mail sent to support@carstamp.app and forwards it to the developer's mailbox with Apple's email service, where it is stored. Cloudflare may process it outside the European Union under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and the European Commission's standard contractual clauses; in the EU, Apple's email service is provided by Apple Distribution International Ltd., Ireland. We never sell or share it with anyone else.
Please do not send backup files or documents unless we ask for them for a specific problem: they contain more personal data than we usually need.
9. This website
This website, carstamp.app, is a static site hosted on Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare keeps standard server access logs, for example IP addresses, for security and to operate the service. The website sets no cookies, uses no analytics or tracking, and loads nothing from other websites. The lawful basis for these logs is our legitimate interest in running a secure, working website (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). Cloudflare keeps them for the periods set out in its own privacy policy and may process them outside the European Union under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.
10. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict and port your personal data, to object to its use, and to complain to a supervisory authority. Here is how they apply to CarStamp for Android:
- Data in the app: the developer does not hold it, so you exercise these rights directly. You can see and correct everything in the app, take a copy with a backup or a CSV export, and delete it as described in section 11.
- Data held by Google (your Google Account, purchases, your Google Drive, Android's backup): ask Google, through Google's privacy pages.
- Order details and support emails: write to support@carstamp.app to get a copy, have them corrected or have them deleted, as far as Google Play lets the developer. We answer within one month.
You may also complain to the Bulgarian Commission for Personal Data Protection (Комисия за защита на личните данни, cpdp.bg), or to the data protection authority where you live or work.
11. Deleting your data
- A car and everything recorded for it: in Settings, Vehicles, open the car and choose Delete Vehicle. With sync on, it is also deleted from your Google Drive and your other devices.
- Workshops, stations and shops: Settings, Providers.
- Everything on one device: uninstall the app, or clear its storage in your device's settings (Apps, CarStamp, Storage). This removes its database, its attachments and its settings from that device.
- What is in your Google Drive: turn off Sync with Google Drive in the app's Settings, then in Google Drive on the web open Settings, Manage apps, find CarStamp and choose Delete hidden app data. You can also remove CarStamp's access to your Google Account at any time at https://myaccount.google.com/permissions.
- Android's backup: delete it in your device's Google backup settings or in your Google Account's storage.
- Backups and other files you exported: delete them wherever you saved them.
- Calendar events: turning off Calendar sync removes the events CarStamp wrote on that device.
12. Children
CarStamp is meant for drivers and car owners. It collects no personal data from anyone, children included. If a child has emailed us and a parent or guardian wants the message deleted, write to us and we will delete it.
13. Changes to this policy
If what the app does with data changes, this page will be updated before the change reaches the app, with a new effective date at the top. A change that means the developer would receive data from the app will also be explained in the app before it applies.
